The Ohio Chapter International Society of Arboriculture and the Clark County Master Gardeners of Ohio invite you to this lunch and learn four-hour workshop about the “Real Story about Tree Roots.”
Tree roots are mostly invisible, and not well understood by many, yet they give sustenance and support for all plants. In many cases, we take them for granted, and they are often improperly managed by the cultural activities in the modern-day landscape. Because tree roots live, die, grow and function mostly out of sight, many people have developed some assumptions about how and when roots grow, especially when it comes to trees. These mistaken ideas influence how long trees can live and die by the actions of tree selection, improper planting, improper watering, mulching, root cuts, and fertilization.
This class will forever change the way you understand how tree roots form, grow, and function.

This course will be a resource for anyone interested in tree roots, and particularly anyone that wants to grow trees and better manage them.
Class Outline
The class will consist of a 2-hour power point presentation on the form, function of root systems in trees, and how conditions affect their health and vitality. Then a one-hour outdoor field study of a tree root system exposed. In the last hour a tree planting demonstrating the ANSI A300 (Part 6)-2012.
Dress for adverse weather conditions, uneven terrain and the class begins promptly at 10 am at the old Clubhouse. Don't forget your lunch!

Purpose: This educational program is for Master Gardeners, ISA Certified Arborists, tree owners, landscape contractors, foresters, lawn dare providers, and other green industry professionals interested in meeting and networking with other industry professionals while learning about how tree roots function, form, are affected by herbicides, deal with decay and about how different species have vastly different root configurations.
About Your Instructor: Mark Webber is a Board-Certified Master Arborist, an ISA Certified Municipal Specialist, ISA Certified Utility Specialist and a Tree Risk Qualified arborist (TRAQ), a Certified Professional Horticulturist with nearly forty years of relevant professional experience. Mark is also a Licensed Tree Expert in multiple states and is designated by the American Society for the Horticultural Sciences as Certified Professional Horticulturist. He is a practicing arborist and horticulturist provides investigations, reports, and testimony in matters related to tree condition, maintenance and removal; management of nursery, arboricultural, tree decay, root management and landscaping operations; and an assortment of horticultural issues.
