Friday, May 5, 2017 - HIGH SCHOOL MOOT COURT COMPETITION

Students prepare legal briefs and present appellate arguments before a panel of judges.
Location: Supreme Court of Ohio
Please Note: A law degree is required to serve as a judge or brief evaluator for the moot court competition. Appellate experience preferred.
MOOT COURT JUDGE
I would like to JUDGE:
MORNING ARGUMENTS (8:30 a.m. - 12 p.m.). Training and breakfast provided
AFTERNOON ARGUMENTS (12:30 - 4:00 p.m.). Training and lunch provided
We are currently at capacity for the afternoon arguments. Please consider judging our morning arguments, or serving as a brief evaluator. Thank you!
MOOT COURT BRIEF EVALUATOR
Evaluators will score approximately 3 written briefs in advance of the competition. Briefs will be provided to reviewers electronically in advance of the competition. Two-three weeks allotted for scoring and return to OCLRE.
I would like to be a Moot Court Brief Evaluator
MOOT COURT FACILITATOR
I would like to FACILITATE. Facilitators help direct teams and judges to assigned courtrooms and act as liaisons between OCLRE staff and participants/judges. Training and meals provided. Note: you do NOT need a law degree to serve as a facilitator.
Volunteer roles include:
  • Registration desk: Help check-in and direct participants and judges as they arrive.
  • Directional assistance: Help direct teams and judges to assigned rooms; relay participants’/judges’ questions to OCLRE staff.
  • Scoresheets: Collect completed scoresheets from judges and return to score room; assist with tallying team scores.
  • Volunteers are currently needed for the morning shift:
    Friday, May 5th, morning 8:30 a.m. -12 p.m.
    Friday, May 5th, afternoon 12:30-4p.m.

    Wednesday, May 17, 2017 - MIDDLE SCHOOL WE THE PEOPLE SHOWCASE (MSWTP)

    Through simulated congressional hearings, students showcase their knowledge of the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights.
    LOCATION: Columbus State Community College Conference Center
    TIME: 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m; training and lunch provided
    I would like to JUDGE.
    I would like to TIME/FACILITATE. Timer/Facilitator keeps time during the simulated hearings (stopwatch provided); helps direct judging panels to the appropriate hearing rooms, and returns score sheets to OCLRE staff.
    VOLUNTEER LEGAL ADVISORS
    OCLRE welcomes attorneys to volunteer as legal advisors for its student-led programs. Teachers and students benefit from the guidance of legal experts to help learn and understand the material and procedures. Time commitment varies and is coordinated between teacher and volunteer attorney. Should OCLRE receive a request from a teacher in your area, we will put him/her in contact with you.
