City is recognized for Velocity Broadband program

Hudson -- The City-County Communications & Marketing Association recognized the city with two awards for its Velocity Broadband program.

Hudson won a First Place Savvy Award in the Marketing and Tools - Economic Development category for the city's marketing launch of high-speed Velocity Broadband. The city won a Second Place Silver Circle Award in the Government Service Delivery/Community Issue category for the Velocity marketing program.

Communications Manager Jody Roberts presented the two awards to Mayor David Basil Sept. 20 at the Hudson City Council meeting.

The city launched Velocity Broadband, a high-speed fiber internet service for Hudson businesses, with a teaser campaign and a "reveal" that included lighting the historic Clocktower, chalk art around downtown, marketing materials, an opening event and vehicle wraps in 2015.

"Velocity Broadband's High-Speed Rollout using historic structures to advertise innovative broadband is genius," according to the 3CMA judging committee. "They built excitement, and then branded the broadband phenomenally well. Looks like advertising was carried out on multiple media formats and even on car wraps. Great job Hudson, Ohio!"
