John Malone dishes on what cable companies need to do

If you’re mad as hell over your rising cable bill, blame programmers not your cable company, Liberty Media Chairman John Malone said in a take-no-prisoners interview Wednesday.

“The villains are usually the programmers,” Malone told the Financial Times.

Malone also dished on CBS Chairman and Chief Executive Les Moonves, tarring him as being “frankly cheap” or “stingy.”

Malone, who owns stakes in companies as diverse as Live Nation, Discovery Communications and Charter Communications, is not known for hiding his feelings — but still pressed into new territory.

He claimed credit for being a part of the Fox News launch and described what he saw as a media industry ripe for consolidation.
