Due to a planned retirement, Bloom Township is accepting applications for the position of Fire Chief.  Bloom Township is located in northwestern Fairfield County 15 miles from the Columbus Metropolitan area.  The township has a population of 8,500 residents which includes the Village of Lithopolis.  The area is known for its high quality of life, quiet and rural atmosphere, and exemplary schools systems.  The service area is 36 square miles and consists of a mix of residential development, open green spaces, farm land and commercial properties.  The Bloom Township Fire Department is a combination department with 15 career and 13 part-time personnel operating from two fire stations.  The department is a well-respected, full-service agency and responds to 1,200 calls for service annually.

The Fire Chief is a direct report to the Township Board of Trustees.  This highly visible position requires an energetic individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to foster a strong team environment.  Successful applicants will have experience in planning, possess astute financial skills, and have a broad background in all aspects of service delivery including fire prevention and inspection. 

Requirements include a minimum of 15 years progressively responsible supervisory experience with five or more years as a command officer (Shift officer or above), and the following State of Ohio certifications: Firefighter II, EMT-P and a valid Ohio operator’s license.  Applicants should also possess or have the ability to obtain fire or EMS instructor certification and fire safety inspector certification within one year of appointment.  Completion of Fire Officer I and II training is also required.  Applicants must also possess an associate degree from an accredited institution in Fire Science, Fire Administration, Public Safety Management, Business Administration or related field.  Completion of the Ohio Fire Executive Program (OFE) or Executive Fire Officer Program (EFO) is desired.  The successful applicant must be in good physical condition and have the ability to pass all pre-employment screenings including physical examination and drug screening.
