Director of 911 Dispatch Center

The Wooster/Ashland Communications Director of 911 Dispatch Operations, under the authority of the Wooster-Ashland Council of Governments or designee, directs the 911 emergency telephone system and emergency dispatch center responsible for dispatching all police, fire and ambulance services within the designated WARCOG service area.

Responsible for the maintenance of all communications and other equipment and the coordination and integration of systems including telephone, computer and radio interfaces. Responsible for all administrative functions of the department including financial and personnel management, including the supervision of dispatch personnel and preparation, administration, and accountability for the budget.

The Director of Operations shall be abreast of the APCO P25 standards, State of Ohio PSAP rules, Next-Gen 911, and developing communication technologies to the emergency communications needs of each user. This could include but is not limited to the use and installation of a 700-800Mhz trunked simulcast radio system and its equipment including: radio transceivers, simulcast site controllers, antenna systems, multi-site microwave links, dispatch consoles, VHF & MARCS paging transmitters, simulcast timing and recording devices, IP multicasting, and associated telecommunications and network equipment impacting public safety operations.

This position researches, plan, designs, tests, operates, monitors, and manages communication systems and projects associated with the radio, microwave, and paging systems. This position serves as technical solutions resources and provides excellent customer service to end users, reports to the WARCOG operations committee and backs up the department as necessary.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration or related field is desired, but substantial prior related experience may be substituted. Five years of experience in emergency communications or public safety dispatch experience is required, including two years of administrative and supervisor experience is desired. A thorough knowledge of current E-9l1 and CAD technology is essential. Experience with Motorola Gold Elite and MC7500 Consoles, and State of Ohio MARCS systems is desirable.

Candidates must have a current State of Ohio driver's license with a good driving record and meet insurance guidelines. Excellent communication both verbal and written, strong inter-personal skills, and self-directed problem solver is required.
