Fire Chief
Brookfield Township
Due to a retirement, Brookfield Township, located in eastern Trumbull County, is accepting applications for the position of Fire Chief. Brookfield Township is a diverse community with a mix of residential neighborhoods, open green spaces, forest land, and light manufacturing and commercial development. Gas well and energy-related business is a growing segment of the township economy. The service area also includes Hartford Township. The Brookfield Township Fire Department is a combination department with seven career, 28 part-time and 15 volunteer personnel operating from two fire stations. The department is a full-service agency that provides emergency response services to 10,400 residents in an area spanning 51 square miles.
The Fire Chief reports directly to the Township Board of Trustees. This position requires an experienced individual who can provide enthusiastic, hands-on leadership and the ability to develop strong working relationships. Successful applicants will demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills, and have a broad background in all aspects of service delivery. Experience in a combination department is a plus.
Requirements include a minimum of 10 years progressively responsible full-time fire and EMS experience, with five or more years as a command officer (Shift officer or above), and the following state of Ohio certifications: Firefighter II, EMT-B, Fire or EMS instructor, Fire Safety Inspector and a valid Ohio operator’s license. Completion of Fire Officer I and II training or the ability to complete the training in the first year is required. An associate degree from an accredited institution in Fire Science, Fire Administration, Public Safety Management, Business Administration, or related field is highly desired. Completion of an executive development program such as the Executive Fire Officer Program (EFO) or the Ohio Fire Executive Program (OFE) is highly preferred. The successful applicant must be in good physical condition and have the ability to pass all pre-employment screenings including physical examination and drug screening.
