Notification of Death - LaMont L. Ickes

January 1, 2007

OFDA received word this morning that LaMont L. Ickes, 79, of Salem died Monday afternoon, January 1, at Hospice of the Valley in North Lima after a lengthy illness.

LaMont was a naval veteran of WWII serving in the Pacific Theater. He attended Ohio State and graduated from The Cleveland College of Mortuary Science. He moved to Salem from Mayfield Heights in 1963 where he and his wife owned and operated The Ickes Funeral Home for 42 years. He was a licensed beautician and worked as a tool and die maker for 29 years at Quaker Manufacturing before his retirement in 1992.

He was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, Heights Lion Heart F&AM #633, Scottish Rite, Al Koran Shrine Club, Past President of the Salem Shrine Club, Branch 18 Salem Saxon Club, a life member of VFW Post 892, member of the National, Ohio and Columbiana County Funeral Directors ( Serving as Past President) Associations.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Caroline Everth of Salem; a daughter Lyn L. Ickes of Wellington and one sister Donna Becker of Alliance. He was preceded in death by a brother Henry.

A Memorial Service will be held Friday, January 5, 2007 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Salem at 11:00 AM. Arrangements have been made with Brown Funeral Home, (330) 337-6363, friends may send condolences and sign the Guest Register online at www.brownfhonline.com.
