Obituary for Robert O.

Father of Dennis McCarter, Sales Representative for Matthews Aurora Co.

Wooster – Robert O. “Bob” McCarter, age 94, of Wooster, formerly of Aurora, IN, died Sunday, April 29, 2018, at Smithville Western Care Center in Wooster, following a period of declining health.

Bob was born on July 30, 1923, in Rochester, Indiana, to Max and Mary (Wolf) McCarter, attended the Augusta Military Academy in Staunton, Virginia, and served as a Naval Pilot in the United States Navy during World War II. He married Anna Laura (Klueber) McCarter on April 26, 1947 in Indianapolis, IN.

He worked in quality control and as a photographer for General Motors in Hamilton, Ohio for 30 years, retiring in 1980.

Bob was a member of the Aurora Farmers Fair Board, Lion’s Club, and the First Baptist Church in Aurora, IN, where he served as a Deacon. He was also a member of the 555th Honors Detachment, the American Legion, and the Silver Eagles (Enlisted Pilots). In his military career, Bob received the Naval Distinguished Flying Cross, a Purple Heart, and a Bronze Star. He enjoyed boating, camping, traveling, woodworking, photography, playing Tetris on his Gameboy, doing crossword puzzles, was an avid reader, enjoyed playing his trumpet, and spending time with his family.

Surviving are two sons, Mike (Tort) McCarter of Leucadia, CA, and Dennis (Jeanne) McCarter of Wooster; six grandchildren, Jess (Julie) McCarter of San Francisco, CA, Maren (Peter) Harper of Brooklyn, NY, Michele (Dan) Lebo of North Ridgeville, Rob (Rachel Coveny) McCarter of Wooster, Caley (Tobias) Ward-Edwards of Silfiac, France, and Eric (fiance' Nicole Incandela) McCarter of Wooster; five great grandchildren, Rowan and August Harper, Matthew Lebo, Hendrix Ward-Edwards, and Max McCarter; and a special friend, Eleanor Deyo of Wooster.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Laura McCarter; father, Max D. McCarter; mother, Mary E. McCarter; and brother, Malcom McCarter.

Services will be held at 10:00 AM on May 11, 2018, at Auble Funeral Home, 512 East Oak Street, Orrville, with Celebrant Kevin O’Brien officiating. Burial will take place at Wooster Cemetery in Wooster where military rites will be observed with a fly over by a World War II TBM Avenger.

Friends may call on May 10, 2018, at the funeral home, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm and one hour prior to the service on the 11th.
