Obituary for Ronald Rex Hostettler

Retired Funeral Director and Former Owner of the now Uhrich-Hostettler-English Funeral Home

Ronald Rex Hostettler, age 82 of Uhrichsville, OH.; passed away on Monday, January 14, 2019, at Park Village Southside in New Philadelphia, following a lengthy illness.

Born on June 27, 1936, in Ashland, OH., Rex is the son of the late Don T. and Catherine (Barden) Hostettler. 

In 1954, Rex graduated from Ashland High School.  He attended Ashland University and transferred to Case Western where he graduated Cum-Laude in 1958 and was a member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. He also graduated from the Cincinnati School of Embalming.  Rex was a funeral director for 50 years having owned the Uhrich-Hostettler Funeral Home, Inc. since 1962 and he retired from there in 2003.  He was a lifelong member of the OFDA and Tri County Funeral Directors.  Rex was a member of the Mystic Tie Lodge, AAA Board for many years, life member of the Elks Lodge #424, Clayland Lions Club, Buckeye Club, Knights of Pythias and the First United Methodist Church for 60 years, where he gave to many charities and was a supporter of the church.  He was an avid golfer, sports fan of the Indians, Browns and Michigan.  When retired he enjoyed vacationing in Hilton Head.

In addition to his parents, Rex is preceded in death by his father-in-law Dale English.

Rex is survived by his wife Arlene (English) Hostettler, whom he married May 23, 1959, and who survives of the home; his daughters Laurie (Greg) Quillen and Shelly (Rusty) McDaniel; his grandchildren Kyle (Sam) Quillen, Kristee Quillen and Ariel (Ryder) Dynes; great grandchildren Rex Ryder, Alee and Kate Dynes and Cade Quillen; his sister Norma (Lloyd) Wygant; mother-in-law Marjorie English; sister-in-law Nancy Baldwin; brother-in-law Allen (Jackie) English and his favorite companions Kitty and Joey.

Funeral services for Rex were held Friday, January 18, 2019, at the Uhrich-Hostettler English Funeral Home, Inc. at Uhrichsville, with the Rev. Shaun Green officiating.  Burial followed at Union Cemetery in Uhrichsville.

Calling hours were on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at the funeral home.  The Lions Club conducted services at 8 p.m.
