OHSAA State Baseball Coach of the Year

Recently the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association selected David Burkett from Tuslaw High School as the 2020 Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) State Coach of the Year.  Despite the cancellation of the 2020 season, the OHSAA wished to continue to recognize a Head Coach from the OHSBCA based on their career achievement, contributions to their program and the great game of baseball. As the OHSAA State Coach of the Year Coach Burkett will be considered for the 2020 National Federation of State High School Associations National Coach of the Year along with one coach from each state.

Coach Burkett is currently in his 26th season as Head Coach overall and is currently the Head Coach at Tuslaw High School. Previously he served as the Head Baseball Coach at Colonel Crawford and Sandy Valley. In 2014 he recorded his 300th career win while at Tuslaw High School and currently owns a 361-293 career record. He has led his teams to 2 League Titles, 9 Sectional Championships and 4 District Runner-Up finishes.

In addition to coaching he is the current Athletic Director at Tuslaw High School and serves on the OHSBCA Executive Board as the Historian and served as President of the Association in 2005 while at Sandy Valley High School.
