OLA Staffer Spotlight

Mike Rowe, Chief of Staff, Ohio Senate Democrats

OLA Staffer Spotlight

Welcome to the OLA Staffer Spotlight! We will be periodically highlighting Ohio General Assembly staffers so our members can learn more about these important staff members and their work.

Mike Rowe
Chief of Staff, Ohio Senate Democrat Caucus

Mike Rowe

After serving nine years as the Communications Director for the Ohio Senate Democrat Caucus, Mike Rowe was appointed Chief of Staff by Senate Minority Leader Kenny Yuko in December 2017.

Mike grew up in Sugarcreek, Ohio and graduated from the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University.

While growing up his dream job was to be the play-by-play voice of the Cleveland Indians, which didn’t happen, but he did start his professional career as a TV sportscaster in Jackson, Mississippi where he  had the opportunity to cover a Super Bowl and an NCAA Final Four.

He moved back to Ohio to become a TV news anchor/reporter in Youngstown and Columbus.  While working in Columbus for Channel 6,  he covered the Statehouse and local elections.   Since he was always interested in politics and public policy,   it was a relatively easy transition to join the Ohio Senate Democratic Caucus as Communications Director in 2009.

When Mike isn’t at the Statehouse, he enjoys  photography and travel—and tries to combine the two whenever possible. He is also a long-suffering Browns, Indians and Blue Jackets fan, which we know most of us can relate.

If you haven’t had the opportunity to work with Mike yet, be sure to stop by and introduce yourself.
