Ohio Optometric Political Action Committee (OOPAC)

The OOPAC is optometry’s voice at the Statehouse and is the only political entity representing the interests of Ohio’s optometrists. It works constantly to protect patients from harmful regulations and to promote commonsense vision care reforms at the Statehouse. OOPAC’s sole goal is to help elect candidates who share these ideals, regardless of party affiliation. In the last two years, OOPAC has contributed over $180,000 to help elect pro-optometry candidates for office in Ohio.

OOPAC is funded through voluntary contributions. OOPAC contributions are separate from OOA dues.

The goal is a $20 per month contribution from each OOA member ($240 annually).

Current issues of importance to optometry include:

  • Many Ohio laws continue to be unfavorable to optometry. Examples include patient access, provider discrimination and lack of vision exam requirement for children starting to school. Optometry's voice must be heard.

  • In face of Ohio's severe budget crisis in Medicaid and many other areas impacting optometry, Optometry's voice must be heard.

  • We must maintain a strong OOPAC to gain access to Ohio elected officials.

Optometrists are licensed professionals, and a strong OOPAC is part of doing business.

Corporate contributions are prohibited. However, partnerships, LLCs and other unincorporated entities may contribute, but must provide the name of an owner to whom to attribute the contribution. Ohio law requires that all contributors must provide their name and address regardless of the amount of the contribution and the name of their employer if the contribution is for more than $100. If the contributor is self employed, the business name and occupation of the contributor must be provided.
