Ohio ACOFP Installs New President

(May 2016) Edward E. Hosbach II, DO, of Coldwater, was installed as president of Ohio ACOFP (American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians) on April 21, 2016, during the Ohio Osteopathic Symposium. He will serve a one-year term.

Hosbach practices medicine at Mercer Health in Ft. Recovery, Ohio. As an osteopathic family physician, he provides comprehensive health care to patients from the nursery to the nursing home. He strives to look at the “whole patient” and know them over a long period of time to promote preventive care and better manage chronic illnesses. He enjoys using his osteopathic manipulation skills to improve patient health, as well as doing office procedures such as joint injection and skin surgeries.

Hosbach also teaches medical students and residents as a clinical assistant professor for Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine (OU-HCOM). He is a 1987 OU-HCOM graduate and completed his internship and residency at Grandview Hospital in Dayton, where he was named Intern of the Year. Interestingly, his undergraduate degree is in electrical engineering.

A strong advocate for osteopathic family medicine, he has served on the Ohio ACOFP Board of Governors since 2001. As president, he will work to promote excellence in medicine through quality education, visionary leadership and responsible advocacy.

Dr. Hosbach and his wife Therese have four daughters: Beth, 26; Angie, 24; Janel, 21; and Kim, 19. When not working he enjoys golf and music. He is a strong believer that laughter is medicine, and emcees with humor several local events. He is active in his community, serving as team physician for Ft. Recovery High School, on the County Board of Health, and as medical director for a local hospice organization.

Ohio ACOFP, founded in 1952, is a statewide professional organization based in Columbus. In Ohio, osteopathic physicians (DOs) represent 13 percent of practicing physicians and 26 percent of the state’s family physicians.
