Ohio Human Trafficking Task Force Releases Online Training Course

OU-HCOM Club to Host Lecture Series in January/February

(December 8, 2016) Public health plays an important role in identifying labor and sex trafficking victims. According to an article in the Annals of Health Law journal, at least 88 percent of human trafficking victims have been seen by a healthcare worker.

The Ohio Human Trafficking Task Force has created a video featuring up-to-date information about the signs and indicators of human trafficking and who it impacts in Ohio. The 50-minute video also features interviews with responders and survivors and explains how you can help make a difference.

To view the training, visit www.humantrafficking.ohio.gov. (Click on the "Training" tab, top right on the navigation bar.)

Separately, students at Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine have organized a series of lectures on the topic. The lectures, from 11:50 am to 1:00 pm, are set for January 31, February 9, and February 14. Speakers include a DO (ob/gyn) and an RN who have been leaders in this arena for a decade.

Jeff Barrows, DO, and Sister Anne Victory have designed response protocols that are being put in place in Columbus and Cleveland.

Presentations will be available (live or broadcast) to all three OU-HCOM campuses: Athens, Dublin, and Cleveland.

The lecture series is sponsored by the Humanism in Medicine Club.
