In Memoriam: Craig Warren-Marzola, DO

The Ohio Osteopathic Association Board of Trustees is mourning the loss of Craig Warren-Marzola, DO, who died January 29th, in his home in Springboro.

Dr. Warren-Marzola, 34, was serving as the Northwest  Osteopathic Medical Association 's (District 1) Trustee, and he had recently moved to Dayton to start a new position as a hospitalist.  In December, he was part of an OOA delegation representing the osteopathic profession at the Ohio Payment Reform Summit in Columbus.

The profession  has lost four other prominent Ohio physicians in the past month. They include: Andre V. Giabldi, DO, and Jack D. Hutchison, DO, who were both former OOA Presidents; Dwain L. Harper, DO, who was nationally known for his work in health care quality: and George L. Eckert, Jr. DO, former Director of Education at Doctors Hospital.

"Craig had served as national president of the Student Osteopathic Medical Association while he was in medical school, and he was passionate about getting OU-COM students involved," said OOA Executive Director Jon Wills.  "We were just beginning to work with him to develop a virtual mentoring program, and we cannot begin to express the loss we feel at this time."

He was a graduate of the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg, WV. He completed his internship and residency at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo. He earned a Ph.D. in public health with a focus on epidemiology from Walden University.

He was dedicated to his mission work and attended several mission trips to the Dominican Republic.  His most prized accolade was the establishment of the Benjamin Foundation, a group whose purpose is teen suicide prevention.   In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Midwest Medical Mission, 141 Toussaint, Oak Harbor, OH 43449.
