Health Policy Fellowship Applications Due June 1st

Applications are being accepted for the 2012-13 class of Health Policy Fellows and must be submitted by June 1, 2012.

Consisting of a year-long series of ten seminars, the program year begins in August.  While the program does not charge tuition, costs of travel and lodging run about $1000 per seminar.  The Ohio Osteopathic Association offers a $5,000 health policy grant to offset expenses of any OOA member who is accepted into the program.

The Fellowship Program is offered by the New York Institute of Technology/New York College of Osteopathic Medicine and the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine in collaboration with colleges in the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), and the AOA and AACOM government relations offices.

Seminars cover the economics of health policy; federal and state health programs; vulnerable populations and culturally competent care; rural health; and the impact of health reform on access to affordable, quality care. Candidates will also study the health professions workforce; health information technology; health issues advocacy and the legislative process.

Graduates of the program include 13 college of osteopathic medicine  deans and two college presidents.  Many graduates have leadership positions at the American Osteopathic Association.  Over twenty graduates have served as president of their state associations.
