Medical Board Names Interim CEO; Suspends MOL Pilot

The State Medical Board of Ohio voted, Oct. 14, to suspend further consideration of participation in the Maintenance of Licensure (MOL) pilot project with the Federation of State Medical Boards.  This decision was made after extensive discussion by the members of the Medical Board over the past two years, with input from interested parties regarding the feasibility of implementing  MOL into Ohio’s biennial physician licensure renewal process.

The Board  named Kimberly C. Anderson, Esq, as interim executive director, following the resignation of Richard A. Whitehouse. Anderson also serves as the assistant executive director of Investigations, Compliance & Enforcement for the agency.

In other news, the OSMB  is introducing an e-Blast series of articles to provide direction on practice, ethical and regulatory issues that come before the Board. The e-Blast will be e-mailed to all DO, MD, DPM, and PA licensees. The first issue addresses the ethical and regulatory standards that govern prescribing for family members. The original article as initially distributed to licensed physicians contained an error. The corrected version is available online at http://1.usa.gov/ScWb4t.
