Director of Pharmacy

The Director of Pharmacy is a highly visible position with accountability at the Region level to lead, direct and execute pharmacy programs that are essential to the clinical and financial positioning of Mercy Lorain pharmacy services. The Pharmacy Director will ensure pharmaceutical services are provided with a consistently high level of quality, cost, effectiveness and patient centered care. Services will be provided in accordance with the mission and vision of Mercy Health while complying with local, state and federal regulations and guidelines.
All site directors of pharmacy will report to the Director of Pharmacy. The Pharmacy Director is responsible for setting system wide standards and making and coordinating decisions across all operating units and continuum of care related to pharmacy.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Ensures the development and provision of exemplary pharmaceutical care integrating CarePATH (EPIC) workflows, formulary management and clinical services across the health care continuum.
Ensures the integration and alignment of pharmaceutical care services across the continuum of care with Mercy Health goals and objectives.
Coordinates activities of the pharmacy services with formulary management, medical informatics committees and clinical content build for Mercy Health’s electronic health record. Provides a coordinated retail and managed care pharmacy service strategy. Works with other areas including Human Resources, Service Lines and ancillary services as appropriate.
Communicates a strong service management philosophy and develops programs and support systems for pharmacy staff to follow this philosophy.
Coordinates with supply chain to present a unified Mercy Health contracting and expense strategy for pharmacy in all areas. Responsible for achieving budget initiatives.
Keeps abreast of new regulations and developments to recommend and implement necessary change with pharmacy services and practice. Actively participates in professional organizations at the local, state and national level so as to bring recognition and to provide coordinated pharmacy services at Mercy Health. Ensures all pharmacy programs are congruent and compliant with all State and Federal regulations.
Ensures compliance with Board of Pharmacy and Joint Commission regulations.
Builds processes and systems to make pharmacy services customer friendly for all physicians, nurses and patients.
Manages programs and corporate initiatives with pharmacy services to identify and develop programs that demonstrate improved quality and safety along with expense reductions.
All other duties as assigned.
Knowledge Skills and Experience Required
Possesses excellent oral and written communication skills and the demonstrated ability to communicate well at all levels of an organization.
Has a strong drive to create a superior service organization, which will ensure quality and commitment to user satisfaction.
Has analytical skills necessary to make sound decisions and recommendations based on data analysis.
Has computer literacy of Microsoft Office Suite – Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access and experience in working with large-scale automated systems. Expertise in preparing, importing and manipulating information in spreadsheets and databases, Word documents and PowerPoint presentations.
Is a team player and able to work across multiple hospitals and disciplines
Must possess the ability to deal with multiple priorities, be self-motivated, work within tight time frames/deadlines, and function independently to implement new programs within a broad scope of guidelines and established policies and goals.
Maintains a personal development plan that includes professional development/ training/education in business writing, technical training, pharmacy automation and technology and other interpersonal skills.
