TMS Therapy for the Treatment of Depression

A decade after the Food and Drug Administration cleared the treatment, many psychiatrists are unfamiliar with the literature about Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and are not aware of its value and benefit to patients suffering with depression.

This talk, presented by Mark S. George, M.D., of the Medical University of South Carolina, provides an overview of the basics of neurobiology of depression and the history of TMS. It also introduces the technology of TMS, proposed mechanisms of actions, and discusses the benefits and risks of TMS in the treatment of depression.
