Forging Industry Association

The Forging Industry Association (FIA) is a trade association based in downtown Cleveland that provides its members with industry benchmarking, global networking, world-class training and education, and public policy advocacy. For over 105 years, FIA has been the primary source of information for the North American forging industry. The Forging Industry Educational and Research Foundation (Forging Foundation) is a supporting organization to FIA that provides a framework for forging industry collaborative research, awards undergraduate scholarships, funds technology development, and transfers technology to the forging industry.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Executive Director of the Forging Foundation reports to the President & CEO of the Forging Industry Association. The Executive Director is responsible for executing the foundation’s strategic plan (2018) which includes developing the donor base and managing the programs of the foundation, including scholarship programs; university grants; membership and prospects outreach; fundraising events; supporting content development for Forging University, and responsibility for all communications (articles, newsletters, website maintenance) supporting these programs. The Executive Director works closely with the Forging Foundation board, its committees and the FIA President & CEO to ensure the success of this supporting organization of the Forging Industry Association.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Board & Committee Meetings

Plans, compile attachments and sends Forging Foundation Board Meeting announcements, arrangements and agenda.
Writes board meeting minutes.
With input from Executive Committee and Treasurer, presents annual budget for board approval.
Reviews strategic plan, technology roadmaps as needed.
Staff liaison for FIA Technical Committee (university projects, every-other-year tech conference) and other standing committees as needed.

Scholarships

Works with donor and/or institute to develop scholarship criteria and set up accounts.
Publicizes availability to FIA Members and students.
Coordinates changes, website, winners, forging materials, etc. with Scholarship America.
Develops new named scholarships from Anvil Society-level giving population.

Fundraising & Membership Outreach

Builds relationships with potential donors to contribute at an Anvil Society level and/or step up to the next Anvil Society level.
Develops and coordinates mailing of corporate and individual fundraising brochures, letters, emails and phone call follow ups.
Creates and manages fundraising events with FIA support.
Travels to meet with member and donor prospects to secure new members and donations.

University and Community Colleges

Coordinates with professors to share information and curriculum with other professors and universities.
Develops relationships with on-going and new university & community college school faculty to encourage forging curriculum/courses; industry relevant research projects, plant visits, co-ops, internships and interaction with FIA Members, professors and students.
Coordinates Technology and Workforce Development Summits at university and community colleges on a rotating basis.
Facilitates content from faculty for Forging University – FIA’s e-learning learning management system (LMS).

Education (pre-college)

Coordinates student outreach program for Teacher & Student Manufacturing-focused camps.
Works with FIA member volunteers to make presentations and offer plant tours.

Communications

Develops content and directs maintenance of foundation website.
Writes eblasts and fundraising newsletters; magazine articles and develops PowerPoint presentations that speak to the mission of the foundation.
Prepares board members to speak at FIA & other industry conferences.

REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree required (advanced degree preferred) with a minimum of 10 years of progressive experience within a foundation. Technical (manufacturing or engineering), foundation or degree-based experience preferred but not required.

MORE INFORMATION:

Salary range for this position is $80,000 to $95,000 per year, depending on abilities and experience.

This is a professional exempt position.
