Central Ohio Unemployment Rate Tumbles to 2.7 Percent

The region’s civilian labor force increased to nearly 1.1 million

Central Ohio’s unemployment rate sharply decreased in April, according to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

The 10-county metropolitan statistical area’s not-seasonally adjusted jobless rate was 2.7 percent last month, down from 3.6 percent in April 2018. Meanwhile, the region’s civilian labor force increased to 1,086,900 workers last month — 16,500 more than April 2018. There were 29,900 unemployed in April compared with 38,100 the same month last year.

Among the counties in the metro area, Delaware and Union had the lowest jobless rate in April at 2.3 percent, followed by Franklin and Madison counties (2.7 percent).
