COVID-19 Update: 32,639 confirmed Ohio cases, 1,938 deaths

May 30, 2020

Today, the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) released this information related to COVID-19 in Ohio: 32,639 confirmed cases; 1,938 deaths and 5,971 hospitalizations. ODH also reported 2,395 probable cases and 211 additional deaths under an expanded case definition of COVID-19 from the CDC.

The state says about 1.3 million Ohioans have filed unemployment claims in the past 10 weeks as Ohio’s stay-at-home order depressed the economy and led to widespread layoffs. The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) said about 42,000 people filed claims for the week ending May 23, down from nearly 46,000 claims filed the previous week. The agency indicated that 1,257,838 people who filed since the pandemic began is more than the total of the past three years.
