OSMA continues to monitor and advocate at the federal level this month. Recent updates include:


Report Shows Medicare Advantage Plans Wrongly Denying Prior Authorization Requests

The Office of the Inspector General (OIG) recently released a report confirming what Ohio physicians have been articulating for several years that Medicare advantage plans have been wrongly denying prior authorization requests. In the report, the OIG lists its specific finding and makes several recommendations for corrective action. This information will help the OSMA advocate at the federal supporting H.R. 3173 (story below) and state level for soon to be introduced prior authorization reform legislation.

Momentum Continues for Federal
Improving Seniors’ Timely Access to Care Act

290 Members of Congress have agreed to Co-Sponsor (12 from Ohio)

H.R. 3173, Improving Seniors’ Timely Access to Care Act, that would significantly reform prior authorization in Medicare Advantage plans continues to gain momentum in Congress increasing the prospect of being brought up for a vote in the House and Senate this year. Ohio is one of the leading states in the country with 12 members of Congress currently signed on as co-sponsors. This federal legislation along with the reform efforts at the state level will help ensure organized medicine is addressing prior authorization challenges with all forms of insurance.
