Accounting Operations Specialist II

Duties/Responsibilities

Responsible for ensuring all ACH transactions and disputes are processed in compliance with NACHA (National Automated Clearing House Association) rules and regulations. Assists employees and members with questions and disputes in the ACH area. Performs daily or monthly reconcilement of various complex general ledger accounts. Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Sends/receives ACH files to/from Federal Reserve for posting; posts rejected items by the required daily deadlines; sends returns to Federal Reserve daily; reviews and processes stop-pay requests. Balances daily ACH reports to the Federal Reserve and general ledger. Maintains the ACH origination file for payment of in-house loans and ensures that files are processed according to set timeline. Responsible for various tasks surrounding online banking and other operational processes. Processes death notifications and reclamations and processes disputed transactions for members. Routinely provides back-up support to other positions and performs other job-related duties as assigned. Research problems or questions from members, originators and staff. Sends and balances third party files to the Federal Reserve for processing. Reconciles various general ledger accounts. Performance Measures: Carry out assigned responsibilities meeting all deadlines with respect to settlement activities with no errors that result in losses to the credit union in accordance with established departmental guidelines. Perform all month-end activities, including journal entries and balancing of accounts within 5 days after the end of the month. Provide backup support to departmental staff as assigned. Troubleshoot and resolve member and internal inquiries in a timely, professional and accurate manner. Unqualified opinions from our CPA firm. No exception items from our NCUA and internal audits. Maintain a dependable record of timeliness and attendance. Keep management informed of operating issues affecting the department.

Education and Experience

Three to five years of similar or related experience.

A high school education or GED.

Accredited ACH Professional certification a plus.

Interpersonal Skills

Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for the purpose of first-level conflict resolution, building relationships, and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication.

Other Skills

Working understanding of Nacha rules and guidelines. Demonstrates ability to exercise discretion and handle sensitive and confidential information. Capable of quick and accurate use of 10-key by touch. Must have strong computer skills, specifically Excel and Word. Must have good analytical and problem-solving skills. Must have strong verbal and written communication skills. Must have the ability to reconcile and balance large corporate accounts and to resolve errors and outages. Must be organized and have the ability to work with multiple priorities, coordinate team deadlines and exhibit good judgment.
