On January 31, 2011 I started my work day like any other with sitting talking to one of my employees. She was explaining to me what had happened over the weekend, and we were laughing when all of a sudden I stopped laughing and slumped over my desk. My employee then screamed for two other employees to come into the office.  They laid me down on the floor and realized that I was gasping for air and had turned blue. They called 911 and within a few minutes the EMT's were there and started CPR and proceeded to shock me once before leaving to go to the hospital. Once at the hospital I was shocked 6 more times before becoming stable. After that I remained in a medically induced coma for 11 days which included the hyper thermic therapy and various other normal things like CAT scans, x rays and a cardiac cath. On 2/14/11 (ironic) they implanted an ICD in me, and I went off to rehab for another week. After 24 total days in the hospital, I have started my long road to recovery. I have no lasting effects of brain damage, and I was back to work two weeks after leaving the hospital. I cannot remember the entire month of January and majority of February, but I am very happy to have survived SCA. Come to find out I had an enlarged heart due to high blood pressure and basically dropped dead. If not for the support of my family and friends, I probably would not have had the strength to survive.
