As a leading cause of death in the United States, sudden cardiac arrest affects every community in the nation. When SCA claims the life of a child, a mother or father, a sister or brother, families and entire communities are shaken. It is a goal of the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Association to develop local chapters and affiliates in every one of the 50 states. We believe that the support of others is essential and that the support of others who have been affected by SCA is incomparable.

As local chapters and affiliates are founded, each will tailor programs to the communities they serve. These local chapters and affiliates of the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Association will offer core services described below.

Support - Chapters and affiliates offer a supportive community where both survivors and those who have lost loved ones to sudden cardiac arrest find they can share their experiences.

Awareness and Education - Chapters and affiliates work in their local communities to raise awareness of sudden cardiac arrest; increase public access to defibrillation in schools, health clubs, and other venues; and encourage therapy alternatives including implantable cardiac defibrillators.

Advocacy and Outreach - Chapters and affiliates collaborate with local hospitals, physicians, academic centers, and industries to spearhead local and state advocacy efforts to:

  • Change public policy to improve access to AEDs
  • Raise AED/ICD and CPR awareness
  • Mandate AED access and training in schools, health clubs, and other locations
  • Improve Good Samaritan laws
  • Further the mission of the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Association
