Director of Music for Sunday morning

Wittenberg University is currently accepting applications for the position of Organist/Pianist and Choir Director for Sunday mornings.
The successful candidate will coordinate the music and serve as primary accompanist for Sunday morning services in Weaver Chapel when classes are in session. This is an academic year (two semesters), part-time position (10-15 hrs/wk) with no services during summer, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, fall break and spring break.
Job responsibilities will include: organize and direct music for Sunday morning chapel services, working closely with pastors, students, and collaborating with the music department, during the academic year and at special services such as Ash Wednesday and others to be determined; serve as primary accompanist for Sunday morning liturgy and hymns; work with student musicians to offer their musical gifts on Sunday morning, including directing a chapel choir and/or music team, as well as coordinating individual soloists and various ensembles; suggest hymns and songs to pastors for their selection for worship; meet regularly with university pastors to coordinate creative opportunities for worship (frequency of meetings to be negotiated, but will vary from weekly to monthly, depending upon the season).
Requirements:
For this position, we require that candidates have a demonstrated knowledge of traditional and contemporary music and liturgical practices, particularly with that of the Evangelical Lutheran Worship book, as well as a familiarity with other traditions; excellent keyboard skills; the desire and ability to teach new music and liturgical settings to the worshipping congregation; an appreciation for the role of worship in an undergraduate setting, and a demonstrated ability to work with young adults in music, particularly those with emerging musical gifts. Additionally, candidates must show a demonstrated ability to direct guitarists and other instrumentalists as needed; ability to play guitar also helpful; strong record of collaboration, communication and teamwork.
A bachelor’s degree in music or church music or equivalent is preferred.

The Director of Sunday morning Chapel Music reports directly to the University Pastors.
Sunday morning worship is held in Weaver Chapel. The chapel organ, a three manual instrument with 52 ranks of pipes constructed by the Reuter Organ Company, 1956, was extensively restored in the last decade. The piano is a Bösendorfer model 225, half concert grand piano with 92 keys.
