Youth Group Leader:

The Youth Group Leader will execute the strategy for youth at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. The Leader will help develop youth with the leadership skills and confidence to share their faith and to nurture the formation of faith within the youth community. The Youth Group Leader will plan, organize and lead activities, meetings and outings for youth at GDLC between grades 4 and 12 and lead Children’s Church for younger children

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE

 

  1. A High School diploma is required
  2. Working towards a bachelor’s or master’s degree is preferred
  3. Working with youth groups or related experience is preferred

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  1. Prefer a candidate that confesses the Lutheran faith.  Prefer the candidate becomes a member of GDLC congregation or maintains their membership in a ELCA or Full Communion partner denomination church. 
  2. Mentor youth to grow in their relationship to Christ.
  3. Strong organizational, listening, oral and written communication skills.
  4. Ability to take initiative, to be a self-starter, and to act effectively as a part of the ministry team.
  5. Self-confidence/perseverance/strong work ethic and remain positive and maintain progress towards a goal despite obstacles and adversity.
  6. Willingness to understand and respond to youth in the context of our community.
  7. Technology skills to relate to youth, examples social media, email and virtual meeting platforms.
  8. Proficiency with a musical instrument or choir is preferred

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Youth Group Leader must ascribe to the visions and expectations document of the ELCA regarding fiduciary, spiritual, and sexual conduct.
  • Execute the strategy for youth ministry development at GDLC.
  • Support the mission and vison of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.
  • Support and lead programs that develop youth with the leadership skills and confidence to share their faith and to nurture the formation of faith within the youth community.
    1. Child Ministry: Establish appropriate groups/activities/events for children in grades 4 and 5.
    2. Middle School Ministry: Establish appropriate groups/activities/events for children in grades 6, 7, and 8. 
    3. High School Ministry: Plan, organize, and lead activities/events & mission trips/projects for senior high youth.   
    4. Children’s Church: Plan, organize and lead Children’s Church, coordinate material and lesson with the lectionary. 
  • Coordinate with key volunteers for larger events such as mission trips/VBS.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by Senior Pastor.

 

SUPPORT, TRAINING AND REVIEW

  1. The Youth Group Leader is supported by the Spiritual Growth Committee and the Senior Pastor.
  2. The Youth Group Leader will be responsible for working in conjunction with the Senior Pastor to develop and maintain a growth and development plan, which will include continuing education courses (approved by the Senior Pastor).
  3. The Senior Pastor will meet with the Youth Group Leader at least annually for performance review and review of growth and development plan.
