Obituary for The Rev. Dr. Donald Fritz

The Rev. Dr. Donald L. Fritz, age 89, a longtime resident of Reynoldsburg, passed away Saturday, December 10, 2016. He was the founding pastor of Messiah Lutheran Church, in Reynoldsburg, in 1958, where he served until his retirement in 1991. Upon retirement he continued to serve as an assistant at St. John Lutheran Church on West Broad Street.

He earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Capital University, and his Bachelors of Divinity from Capital Seminary, then going on to earn his Masters and PhD from The Ohio State University. Prior to full time ministry, from 1948-1954, he was a local radio announcer and was the first voice of the Ohio State University football team.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Lou Fritz; daughter, Debbie Bunce; son, Donald (Rebecca) Fritz, Jr; grandsons, Andrew Bunce and Eric Fritz; and sister, Dorothy (Rev. Robert) Pfueger. His family will receive friends Wednesday, December 14 from 10-11 a.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church, Waggoner Road, Reynoldsburg, where his service will be at 11 a.m. with Rev. Tom Phillips officiating, assisted by Rev. Karl Hanf, Rev. Liz Lowry, and niece Rev. Diana Friend. His interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery.
