Obituary for The Rev. Eldor Paul Panning

The Reverend Eldor Paul Panning, age 82, passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 in Columbus, Ohio. He was born in Napoleon Twp., Ohio on December 20, 1934, son of the late Emil and Emma (Freytag) Panning. Eldor was a loving and faithful husband to his wife of 55 years, Linnie (Leckrone) Panning, before her passing on June 5, 2015. He will be missed by his three sons, Mark, Scott and Stephen; daughters-in-law, Pamela and Jennifer; six grandchildren, Clare, Seth, Morgen, Sloan, Luke and Avery; brother, Edwin; and sister, Esther.

Pr. Panning was a graduate of Capital University and Trinity Lutheran Seminary. He was ordained in 1960 and served congregations in Ohio and Michigan for the next 18 years. In 1979, he became the chaplain at Luther Home and Luther Village in Grand Rapids, MI where he spent the last 20 years of his pastoral ministry.

Pr. Panning is remembered for his gentle and caring spirit, a wonderful smile and sense of humor, his selfless devotion to family, and love for Christ.

Family and friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Monday, April 3 at Schoedinger Northeast Chapel, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd., Gahanna, OH. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 4 at Peace Lutheran Church, 455 Clark State Rd., Gahanna, OH. Pastor Doug Warburton officiating.
