Phyllis Reeck Schaaf, age 89, born August 9, 1928 in Toledo, OH; died July 3, 2018 at Wesley Ridge. She lived and died in grace, secure in her faith in Christ. Preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Minnie Beck Reeck and her husband of 37 years, Rev. Dr. James L. Schaaf. Phyllis was an integral part of Jim's ministry to the Church during their lives together. She raised a family and maintained a loving, welcoming home. She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Roger Southward and Susie and Tom Allen; grandchildren, Jared Ferguson, Emma Southward, Jack Ferguson and Glenn Southward, all of Pickerington, OH. She was an extremely proud grandmother who loved sharing in her grandchildren's academics, music, and sporting activities. She is also survived by her sister, Barbara Bohnert of Maumee, OH; niece, LuAnn Bohnert Limes of Swanton, OH; nephew, Jeff Bohnert of Toledo, OH; and grandnephew, Brian Bohnert of Columbus, OH. She graduated from Waite High School (Toledo, OH); attended Bowling Green State University (Ohio), and the Dolmetcher Institute (Heidelberg, Germany). She was a Legal Secretary (Toledo), Secretary, Youth Dept., American Lutheran Church (Columbus), and Secretary, Lutheran Social Services of Central Ohio. She participated fully in her church life at Faith Lutheran Church (Toledo), Good Shepherd (Columbus), St. John (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) and Faith Lutheran (Whitehall) serving in many different capacities. Many wonderful friends enriched her life and her spirit lives on in those whose lives she touched. Friends will be received on Saturday, July 7, 2018 from 3-7 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER EAST CHAPEL, 5360 E. Livingston Ave. The funeral Worship Service will be Sunday, July 8, 2018 at 1 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 730 Collingwood Ave. with a brief committal service at the graveside on Monday, July 9, 2018 at 12:30 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling, WV. Memorial gifts may be given to Wesley Communities Charitable Care Fund, 5155 N. High St., Columbus, OH 43214 in honor of all those dedicated workers who helped care for her during her final years.
