Help provide a safe and fun place for kids to heal from the Dayton Memorial Day tornadoes!

Peace Lutheran Church in Beavercreek, Ohio is hosting the first of five Camp Noah weeks for elementary children who have been impacted by the Memorial Day Tornados.

On Memorial Day 2019, nineteen tornados tore through the Miami Valley leaving a path of destruction in their wake. We are busy rebuilding our community, but we also need to support the mental and emotional health of children who are still struggling to cope with this natural disaster and other traumatic events in 2019. The Dayton Conference of the Southern Ohio Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, in partnership with Lutheran Social Services of Central Ohio, and Lutheran Disaster Response-US, have already committed 25% of the necessary funding to bring Camp Noah to the Miami Valley to help our children continue to rebuild and heal.

Camp Noah is a week-long day camp for children in K-5th grade who survived the Memorial Day tornados in our community. Camp Noah provides a safe, caring, and fun environment where children build resiliency skills within the familiarity of their own communities. Camp Noah utilizes a proven curriculum designed to help children process their disaster and/or trauma experience through creative activities and play. In this safe and supportive setting, children are encouraged to face their fears, grieve their losses, identify and share their unique gifts and talents, and plan for an amazing future. Further information about Camp Noah and their mission to bring hope and healing to communities that have been impacted by disaster can be found at https://www.lssmn.org/campnoah/about-us.

Together, we hope to hold five different camps around the Miami Valley for approximately 250 children in the area to help process the events of this past summer, gain lifelong resiliency skills, and be better prepared for another natural disaster. The first Camp Noah is already scheduled for March 23-27, 2020 at Peace Lutheran Church in Beavercreek, Ohio.
