July 2020 Stewardship Newsletter: Thanks and good books to read and share

Stories of Faith in the Southern Ohio Synod

A Newsletter from the Stewardship

July 7, 2020

Thank you for your faithful mission support!  We are awestruck by the way in which our Southern Ohio Synod congregations witness to their trust in God’s provision by continuing to send in mission support contributions even in these uncertain times!  You are an inspiration to us!

We always give thanks to God for all of you and mention you in our prayers, constantly remembering before our God and Father your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.  --1 Thessalonians 1:2-3

Embracing Stewardship Book

Good Books on Stewardship

One of the Stewardship Team’s goals is to lift up particularly good resources on stewardship.

Our Team member and former chair, Pastor Emily Beckering wrote this review:

Charles R. Lane and Grace Duddy Pomroy, Embracing Stewardship:  How to Put Stewardship at the HEART of Your Congregation’s LIFE (2016)

If you’re not sure where to begin your annual stewardship drive, then start here.  If you’ve been working on financial stewardship for some time and are now wanting to launch initiatives to teach and practice stewardship as the care of everything God has entrusted to us, then this is your answer. Chick Lane and Grace Duddy Pomroy—two different people in many aspects—share a conviction that everything we do is stewardship.  In their book, Embracing Stewardship, Grace and Chick lay out Biblical teachings on stewardship and then outline eight congregational practices to help your congregation live out those Biblical teachings. The book also offers a strategic process for introducing change to any aspect of life as a congregation. The personal stories, practical examples, and conversational writing style make this a very easy and applicable read for committees, councils, and clergy. These strategies will not only increase financial giving in your congregation; they will also create a culture of generosity for all to share their time, talents, and financial resources from a God with freedom and joy.  You can find additional resources related to this book at embracingstewardship.com
