Below is an important notice from the ELCA churchwide organization regarding legal considerations having to do with the Boy Scouts in America—specifically those associated with congregations.

As you may be aware, the Boy Scouts of America filed for bankruptcy earlier this year, primarily due to the flood of sexual abuse lawsuits.  There are many questions about what this may mean for congregations that are (or were) chartering organizations for Boy Scout troops.  In particular, congregations that chartered Boy Scout troops should consider whether to file a proof of claim in the bankruptcy to protect their interests. We have prepared a resource on the BSA Bankruptcy which is now available on our resource page under the sexual misconduct tab, here:  https://www.elca.org/Resources/Legal#Sexual.

November 16 is the deadline to file.

Education Opportunities for Leaders

End of Year Generosity--A special workshop for rostered ministers and stewardship teams In many congregations this year we have 25-33% of households who gave in 2019 that have not yet made a financial gift in 2020. Workshop scheduled for Nov 18 at 3 pm on Zoom.

Join us for the Vibrant Church Conference on November 14--Neighboring The Vibrant Church Conference is designed to provide applicable training on topics currently impacting (maybe even baffling) leaders and congregations. Each session is 2 hours long, online only, with pre-work provided the week of the session. COURSE is FREE! These courses are primarily crafted for lay leaders, but rostered ministers are welcome to attend. Please share this invite with your lay leadership! Deadline to register is November 8th!

TLS at Capital University invites you to annual Community Kristallnacht Commemoration on Nov 9th at 7PM On the night of November 9, 1938, Nazi authorities instigated violent attacks against Jewish persons and their properties across Germany and Austria. Hundreds of Jews died. Tens of thousands were taken prisoner and were shipped off to concentration camps. TLS invites you to commemorate Kristallnacht with them online.
