Mental Illness Awareness Week is October 2-8: Will Your Congregation be Involved?

While people with mental illness are beginning to receive more support and understanding from the general community, there are still many misperceptions and unwarranted fears concerning this type of illness.

Many of our Southern Ohio Synod congregations have begun Mental Illness Support ministries as a way of reaching out into the community and sharing God's love with an often overlooked population.

October 2-8, 2011 is Mental Illness Awareness Week. One of our congregations, Christ the King in Centerville, is joining forces with Our Friends at The Castle, the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)-Montgomery County and other community churches to sponsor a community gathering and prayer vigil on Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at 5:30 pm. The gathering will be held at Our Friends at The Castle, 133 N Main St., Centerville.

If your congregation would like to participate in the national Mental Illness Awareness Week, resources can be found on the NAMI website.
