Letter from Pastor William Maheka Pamui Identified as Scam

Some ELCA leaders have received a letter from Pastor William Maheka Pamui, Senior Pastor of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Dar es Salaam. In the letter, he is asking for financial contributions to be made to a bank account in New York to help provide 10 wells for clean drinking water.

ELCA leadership has been in contact with the Global Mission's Regional Representative in Tanzania who has confirmed that this letter is a scam. Do not send money.

As always, if you wish to contribute money to a project in a companion synod, please work through the Southern Ohio Synod office to make sure the donations are sent to the correct location and are supporting a legitimate need. If the donation is for an ELCA mission, the synod office will forward those funds with proper documentation to the ELCA for distribution.
