Obituary for The Rev. Dave Shugert

The Reverend Dave Shugert went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 20, 2012. 

Pr. Shugert was born on April 12, 1939 in Columbus, Ohio. He graduated from Capital University in 1965 and went on to receive his Bachelor of Divinity from the Evangelical Lutheran Theological Seminary in Columbus, Ohio.

He served the American Lutheran Church as a Foreign Mission Builder from 1958 to 1960. Dave then went on to serve First Lutheran Parish in Montana; Trinity Lutheran Church in Moulton, Ohio and Epiphany Lutheran Church in Pickerington, Ohio until his retirement in 2004.

Dave is survived by his wife of 47 years, Jean (Schleicher); sons, Mike, Westerville and Matt and daughter-in-law, Joy Fishel, Silver Spring, MD; grandchildren, Tessa and Ronan; older brother, Dick (Peg) Shugert; brothers-in-law, John (Phylis) and Jim (Livvy) Schleicher; nieces and nephews, cousins and a host of friends, all of whom he loved dearly.

Friends may visit the Shugert family 2:30-4:30 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 268 Hill Road North, Pickerington, OH, 43147, where a memorial service will be held, 11 a.m. Monday. Pastors Tim Kuenzli, Will Hartfelder, Dick Walston and Bishop John Schleicher officiating. Inturnment at Epiphany's Memorial Garden will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Grace Lutheran Church, Westerville, OH, Epiphany Lutheran Church, Pickerington, OH, Clinton Heights Lutheran Church, Columbus, OH, Luther Home of Mercy, Williston, OH or Trinity Lutheran Seminary, Columbus, OH.
