Presentation - Mark Steele

Midwest Photo

Mark Steele is a nearly 40-year veteran of the local photography scene. He established himself in the late 1980s as an assistant and later as a photographer for the international design consultancy Fitch, where he became known for a distinctive large-format 4×5 studio style and retail interior photography. His work during this period contributed to Fitch’s growing industry recognition and reputation.

In 1998, Steele launched his own business, focusing on photographing retail interiors and brand stories for local, national, and international clients. Rather than simply documenting spaces, his approach emphasizes capturing the narrative and intent of a brand within a site—an approach that has helped clients earn more than 400 awards across a wide range of retail design competitions.

His client list includes global brands such as Timberland, Verizon, Bath & Body Works, Victoria’s Secret, Luxottica, Walmart, Target, McDonald’s, Raisin’ Canes, and Bank of America, among many others. He has also collaborated extensively with leading design firms and manufacturers.

This presentation highlights selected projects spanning the 1990s to the present, along with a discussion of the techniques and equipment used throughout his career.
