Mother’s Day Exceeded Expectations and 2017 Looks "Rosy"

Molly Alton Mullins, WF&FSA Executive Vice President

Molly Alton Mullins HeadshotLate last month WF&FSA surveyed its members on Mother’s Day and their business results from one of the industry’s most important holidays. Overall, almost 45 percent of all respondents stated that Mother’s Day was “better than expected.”  Additionally, a whopping 33 percent said sales were up more than 10 percent with 75 percent of all respondents reporting sales up overall.

Q1

When comparing Mother’s Day 2017 to last year, 73 percent of all respondents said overall profitability was up, and more than half said that Mother’s Day sales were better than Valentine’s Day this year.

Q2

Looking toward the remainder of 2017, most WF&FSA members are optimistic, with 62.5 percent expecting their sales outlook to be “up.”  Only 6 percent are expecting a decline in sales, and 16 percent expect it to be flat.

Q3

However overall the profit outlook for this year is quite positive. Almost 60 percent expect overall profitability to increase in 2017 which is hopefully something the florist and florist supply industry can sustain into 2018 and beyond.

Q4I think we should all go home and thank our mothers.
