YBAA University is an annual series of educational programs offered each summer in Annapolis. Attendees receive training in preparation for the CPYB exam, as well as networking opportunities and participation in business presentations, technology sessions, and panel discussions.

These convenient conferences provide added value for all members wishing to keep in close touch with the issues and challenges facing the industry, and CPYB brokers receive 7 recertification credits for full-day attendance.

SPEAKER BIOGRAPHIES

Jonathan Chapman

Jonathan S. Chapman, President YBAA, Worth Avenue Yachts

Jonathan Chapman has over 20 years in the brokerage business.  His experience casts a wide net, including production sail and powerboats, new build mega-yachts, and classic wooden yachts. He has worked with Bartram & Brakenhoff, International Yacht Collection, and Northrop & Johnson.

As President of YBBA, Jonathan has been paramount in their form’s revision committee and assisted in redesigning the contracts used by licensed brokers across the industry. He is a member of IYBA (International Yacht Brokers Association) and earned his CPYB (Certified Professional Yacht Broker) certification in 2005. He is also a Florida-licensed yacht broker and a licensed yacht captain.

Jonathan offers comprehensive knowledge of yachting to both Worth Avenue Yachts and his clients, focusing on brokerage yacht sales and new construction projects worldwide. He has earned a reputation in the industry for honesty, integrity, and going the extra mile. Jonathan represents the Newport, Rhode Island office of Worth Avenue Yachts, and he is standing by to assist you in listing your yacht for sale or finding your next dream yacht.

Garrett Schwartz, Chief Technology Officer, YachtBroker.org

Garrett Schwartz is Chief Technology Officer for YachtBroker.org, a marine industry MLS platform designed exclusively for professional yacht brokers that enables self-control and self-regulation over the industry's aggregate listing data. A graduate of Arizona State University, Garrett was Senior Technology Consultant for a leading sales automation firm for over 10 years before establishing a tech firm that specialized in real estate MLS and marine industry API data integration services.

 

Ken Comerford

Ken Comerford, President, Owner and Broker, North Point Yacht Sales

Ken Comerford is a passionate sail and power boater you will find on the water in his free time. He enjoys everything from offshore racing and fishing to a cocktail cruise with his family and friends. He has worked in the yacht business for many years focusing on building relationships and providing his customers with excellent customer service. His commitment shows as North Point Yacht Sales is now among the top brokerages and new boat dealerships on the East Coast. Before his marine experience, Ken had an extensive career at Salomon North America as the mid-Atlantic sales manager for the alpine and snowboard lines.

Brian Goodwin, Technical Director, American Boat & Yacht Council

Brian Goodwin is the Technical Director at the American Boat and Yacht Council. Brian is responsible for managing the review and publication of over 70 industry standards. He also ensures the execution of numerous grants awarded to the ABYC Technical Department.  Brian also actively liaisons with other groups, including NMMA, NASBLA, SAMS®, NAMS, NFPA, and SAE. Before assuming his role as the Technical Director in 2012, he was the Technical Standards Manager at ABYC.

Vincent J. Petrella, CPYB, Cueroni Management Group

Vin Petrella has been in the recreational marine industry for 45 years starting his career as a sailmaker, then yacht broker, owner of Hellier Yacht Sales, and then retired in 2020 after 10 years as the YBAA Executive Director.

Vin has severed on the YBAA board, was president for two years, and was the founding Chairman of the National Yacht Broker Certification Program (CPYB).


Denise Hanna

Denise Hanna, Yacht Consultant, Atlantic Cruising Yachts

Denise Hanna is a Certified Professional Yacht Broker with Atlantic Cruising Yachts and she has been in the Yacht Sales industry since 1995. Denise is a Catamaran specialist and won several awards throughout her career. Denise has extensive knowledge of the boating industry and represented many brands over the years, including Taswell, Valiant, Tartan, Sabre, Beneteau, Lagoon and was the National Sales Manager for Beneteau Sailboats from 2012 to 2014. Her expertise, hard work, and dedication go beyond the sale of the boat and her level of service to her clients builds long-lasting relationships.

Gary Jobson

Gary Jobson, Jobson Sailing

Gary Jobson started his career as a sailing coach at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, and later at the U.S. Naval Academy. Since then, Gary has authored 21 books on sailing, narrated or produced 1,200 television programs and films, has given over 2,700 lectures, and has competed in 5,700 races. His articles appear regularly in Sailing World magazine, Cruising World magazine, and What’s Up Annapolis.


Todd Lochner

Todd Lochner, President, Owner, Lochner Law Firm, P.C.

Todd Lochner is a Proctor in Admiralty and his practice has represented yacht brokers and sellers for 20 years. He served in the leadership of the Recreational Boating Committee of the Maritime Law Association, the Legal Committee for the United States Sailing Association, and is a member of the Mid-Atlantic Mariners Club and Marine Trades Association of Maryland. Currently, he serves as a member of the Board of Trustees for Annapolis Community Boating, Inc.

Todd is an avid sailor who has been a part of the recreational maritime industry since he worked as a sailing instructor in 1992. He is a member of the St. Petersburg Yacht Club and the Severn Sailing Association, where he races various sailboats. Recently, Todd competed in campaigns for the 2007 and 2009 Melges 24 World Championships where his team placed first and second respectively in the Corinthian class.

Andrew High is a Co-Founder of Luxury Law Group, an innovative boutique law firm with offices in Florida, Washington, D.C., and New York. Mr. High is also a Co-Founder of Luxury Financial Group, specializing in yacht, aircraft, and RV financing. Mr. High handles a wide variety of domestic and international matters related to the purchase and sale of yachts, aircraft, RV’s, and collectible cars. Mr. High has been a frequent contributor to several well-known trade publications and is often featured as a speaker or panelist on the legalities of high-dollar asset transactions. In addition to his law practice, Mr. High devotes a significant amount of time in working with AMIKids, a national charitable organization dedicated to improving the lives of troubled youth through means of alternative education.
