We are excited about the plenary session at the upcoming Annual Institute in June, where we will focus on measurement strategies for the Population Health domain of the AACN Essentials. We will feature the AACN public/population health nursing assessment vignette developed by ACHNE members to evaluate BSN level competency in population health.
The following background information is taken directly from the Population Health Nursing landing page for the AACN:
The vignette can be used as part of a course in population or public health or as part of an end-of-program course to determine student ability to synthesize population health concepts with other knowledge/skills across the patient care continuum. Additionally, the vignette can be used as a learning tool for individuals or as a group discussion tool. This vignette was piloted and found to be a valid and reliable measure of identified population health/public health nursing competencies. Faculty can use the vignette as a template for the development of additional vignettes to assess competencies delineated in the AACN Essentials Population Health Domain. The development of the vignette was funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Academic Partnerships to Improve Health initiative.
