Join AFOS member, Dr. Frances Silva, as she presents a 1-hour COPE course titled, "Current Cone Contrast Testing & Research: An Overlooked Yet Crucial Functional Vision Test".
This 1-hour COPE course will discuss background and current methods of assessing functional color vision in the clinic. It will focus on cone-contrast testing for color vision deficiency diagnosis, occupational assessment, and disease management. It is designed to encourage, empower, and engage clinical optometrists to utilize this functional vision test.
Dr. Frances M. Silva OD, MS, PhD, FAAO
Vision Researcher at the US Army Institute of Surgical Research
Dr. Frances M. Silva OD, MS, PhD, FAAO is a US Army Veteran, residency-trained optometrist with over 10 years of distinct and extensive Optometric experience in various practice modalities. Her journey began with the extremely competitive four-year Army Health Professions Scholarship for optometry school that has propelled her career to where it is today.
Dr. Silva earned her respective Bachelor and Master of Science Biology and Biotechnology degrees at the University of Texas in San Antonio. She received her Doctor of Optometry degree at the University of Houston and has recently completed her Doctor of Philosophy degree in Vision Science at the University of the Incarnate Word Rosenberg School of Optometry. Dr. Silva has presented her innovative color vision testing research at both the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) and the American Academy of Optometry (AAO) conferences.
She is currently an ORISE Fellow at the US Army Institute of Surgical Research with primary focus on combat ocular trauma research and development.
