OCC: Underwriting Standards Ease for Fourth Straight Year

Underwriting practices among national banks and federal savings associations eased in 2016 for a fourth consecutive year, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency said. The agency said easing standards reflect competitive pressures, expanding credit risk appetites, and a desire for loan growth. The OCC noted concerns related to aggressive growth rates, weaknesses in concentration risk management, and deterioration in energy-related portfolios.
