The Medical Director serves as the medical expert for the Butler County Health District; oversees and provides medical consultation and direction for all clinical activities and programming including infectious diseases, vaccinations, and maternal-child health; ensures the establishment, review and compliance of standing medical orders and protocols; serves as a technical resource and liaison with the medical community and organizations within the community; and advises the health district on matters of medical policy.
This position is part time and/or intermittent.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Develops, approves, and evaluates medical policies for the department, along with Health Commissioner, Director of Nursing, and Environmental Chief.
• Works closely with the Director of Nursing to assure the efficient operation of medical and clinical activities including the vaccination clinic. Provides medical orders and standards of practice for clinical activities.
• Serves as a member of the health district leadership team, and as such, represents the health department in the community as needed.
• Maintains effective working relationships with professional societies and health agencies to ensure that department programs are in compliance with medical standards and best practices.
• Serves as the medical liaison with state and federal medical authorities, as needed.
• Responsible for the receipt and distribution of licensed pharmaceuticals, mostly vaccines.
• Provides periodic in-service training for clinical and other health department staff.
• During a public health emergency or critical situation, writes orders for medications, treatments, specimen collection, labs, skin tests, x-rays, and other diagnostic tests as needed.
• Provides telephone consultation as needed on matters of public health.
