Podcast: School-Based Health Centers

Latest ODH Podcast Focuses on School-Based Health Centers

The latest episode of the Ohio Department of Health’s (ODH) “Healthy Perspectives” podcast with Director Bruce Vanderhoff, MD, focuses on school-based health centers.

Over the past five years, the State of Ohio has invested heavily in opening new school-based health centers, as well as expanding existing centers. ODH has funded nearly 50 of these centers across Ohio to date, with more on the way.

But what exactly are school-based health centers, and how are they helping increase access to healthcare, not only for students, but also for school staff, parents, and the community?

Those questions and more are answered in the latest episode of the “Healthy Perspectives” podcast.

“School-based health centers are not new, but in recent years Ohio has really leaned in and is investing much more,” said Dr. Vanderhoff. “The impact has been incredible.”

Dr. Vanderhoff is joined in the podcast by Dr. Vanessa Meier, a family physician and medical director of MetroHealth’s school health program in the Cleveland area. Dr. Vanderhoff leads a discussion of how these centers are changing the landscape of healthcare in Ohio.
