TITLE: Intermittent Pharmacy Technician
CLASSIFICATION: Intermittent; (on-call as needed, should not exceed 120 days/calendar year of 1000 hours worked); FLSA Non-Exempt; Unclassified
PAY RANGE: Starting rate is $18.04 per hour; Commensurate with experience
WORK HOURS: Days and hours of work may vary; Nights/weekends/holidays may be required
IMMEDIATE SUPERVSOR: Pharmacist in Charge
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Intermittent Pharmacy Technician will assist the Pharmacist in the pharmacy with all
aspects of prescription processing, inventory management and customer service.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
• Performs necessary tasks relating to the preparation and processing of prescriptions.
• Assists with inventory management, including procurement of medications, verification
of medications delivered, accuracy of medication invoices, processing and filing
invoices, providing copies for the accounting department and putting away medications,
mindful of stock rotation requirements;
• Follows a systematic approach for identifying and removing outdated medications and
providing proper documentation;
• Customer service including accepting prescriptions or refill requests and gathering all
required information in order to properly prepare the prescription; answers the phone
and responds to caller’s needs;
• Processes prescriptions and takes responsibility in assuring Pharmacist verification has
been completed before medication is dispensed;
• Assures that medication counseling is offered with every prescription filled and refers
all questions to the Pharmacist; is familiar and cognizant of the State of Ohio Law that
prohibits anyone except for a Registered Pharmacist to answer questions concerning
medications; captures patient signature documenting this process; receives and
processes payments;
• Performs end of day pharmacy tasks including locking windows, closing blinds,
generation of sales reports, cash register counts, and delivering cash deposits to
finance/billing.
• Shared responsibility for security and accountability for medications and cash drawer;
• Processes, maintains and retains necessary pharmacy records according to state law;
• Attends and participates in health department and health center meetings and trainings;
attends and participates in educational programs as assigned;
• Maintains cleanliness and organization of the Pharmacy;
• Assists with facilitating patient enrollment into patient assistance programs.
• Assists Wood County Health Department and the surrounding community in preparing
for, responding to, withstanding and recovering from public health emergencies;
• Observes confidentiality of client and agency information;
• Maintains all required professional certifications and completes all required continuing
education requirements.
• Regular and punctual attendance;
• Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• 18 years of age;
• High school diploma or equivalent;
• Must have Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification in the State of Ohio.
Valid certification must be maintained throughout employment.
• Valid Ohio driver’s license. A valid license must be maintained throughout employment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience working in a full-service pharmacy.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
• Ability to provide proof of automobile insurance.
• The ability to drive to off-site locations, as required.
• Ability to successfully pass a background check.
• Knowledge of public health laws, regulations, and standards,
• Ability to work alternate hours (early morning, late evening, and/or weekends).
• Ability to lift 55 pounds as needed.
• Ability to sit, stand, stoop and/or walk.
• Ability to grasp with manual dexterity.
• Ability to manipulate a keyboard and other technology.
Final candidates must successfully pass a background check and provide proof of
current automobile insurance.
An individual who poses a direct threat to the health and safety of others in the
workplace will be deemed not qualified for this position.
