NOW HIRING: Epidemiologist II

The Epidemiologist II for the Overdose Data to Action grant will identify public health problems pertinent to substance use disorder and use critical thinking to determine whether a public health problem exists, articulate the need for further investigation or other public health action on the basis of results of literature review and assessment of current data. They will collaborate with harm reduction and prevention partners inside and outside the agency to identify the problem and form recommendations.

This position focuses on providing excellent customer service to internal and external customers in accordance with the mission, core values, and purposes of Franklin County Public Health.

Duties Include:

• Under limited supervision, identifies public health problems pertinent to the population. Conducts surveillance activities. Investigates acute and chronic conditions or other adverse outcomes in the population. Applies principles of good ethical/legal practice as they relate to study design and data collection, dissemination, and use.
• This position will focus on agency performance management, reaccreditation efforts and quality improvement. Analyzes data from an epidemiologic investigation, study or other sources. Summarizes results of the analysis and draw conclusions. Collaborates with programs to direct the study of public health problems to find ways to prevent and to treat the problems via the collection and analysis of data including using observations, interviews, and surveys of health problems, health disparities and the social determinants of health. Evaluates programs. Assists in development of measurable and program-relevant goals and objectives.
• Assists with the development and ongoing maintenance of a comprehensive community health assessment (CHA) and community health improvement plan (CHIP). Prepares and provides data for departmental strategic planning, for measuring compliance with performance standards and for program evaluation. Monitors overall database system and makes final recommendations for program studies (e.g., gathers, compiles and analyzes data, produces reports for the distribution of health data for internal and external stakeholders, works on recurring or project basis, analyzes requests and defines needs, develops objectives, determines resources required and the most feasible and cost effective methods to gather data, develops work plans, assigns priorities and time limits, etc.).
• Prepares written and oral reports and presentations that communicate necessary information in professional audiences, policy makers, and the general public. Reviews work product for accuracy, precision and compliance. Makes presentations of reports. Writes and executes computer programs to build statistical models. Plans, develops and maintains databases to facilitate quick retrieval and manipulation of data. Analyzes databases for validity and reliability. Applies principles of informatics, including data collection, processing and analysis, in support of epidemiologic practice.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• A master’s degree with a focus in epidemiology and at least 3 years’ work experience in epidemiology in a public health agency OR
• A doctoral-level degree in epidemiology OR
• Non-epidemiology graduate degree with specific epidemiology training.
• Knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS software in mapping and spatial analysis of data preferred.

Hiring Wage: $29.79/hour to $34.26/hour. This is a non-exempt position.
