Community Development Intern, Village of Wilmette, IL
The Village of Wilmette is seeking a summer intern for general zoning, planning, and related community development tasks and projects. The intern will work an average of 40 hours per week during business hours at the Village Hall, 1200 Wilmette Avenue, Wilmette, IL. The Village Hall is open for business from 8:00am to 4:30pm on Monday to Friday. The Village Center, where the building is located, is accessible by Metra, CTA and on-site parking is available.
General Responsibilities
The Community Development summer intern will work under the general supervision of the Deputy Director of Community Development and will assist in performing a wide variation of tasks. This position will assist with the adoption and implementation of the new Comprehensive Plan. The position will assist department staff by responding to resident inquiries in person, by phone, and by email. The position will have the opportunity learn about the boards and commissions staffed by the department, including analyzing requests, writing reports, and attending meetings, as well as working on special commission projects, such as historic preservation surveying. The position may assist with code enforcement, such as site visits to view the subject of complaints and other work related tasks.
Position Requirements
The successful candidate will be enrolled in a Community Development, Urban Planning or a related college program and have an interest in pursuing a career in local government. The candidate must have a valid driver’s license, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and strong customer service, communication, and organizational skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams). Experience with graphic design software including Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, inDesign, AI and Acrobat Pro is a plus.
Compensation
The 2026 starting hourly rate is $20.20 and 8 hours of paid time off (PTO). After the initial 320 hours of time worked, an additional hour of PTO will be earned for every additional 40 hours worked. Part-time Village Planner, Village of Addison, IL
The Human Resources Department of the Village of Addison is accepting applications for the at-will, F.L.S.A non-exempt, part-time position of Village Planner in the Community Development of the Village of Addison. This is an entry-level operational position working under direct supervision of the Assistant Director of Community Development. Incumbents in this classification perform routine and non-routine duties with a variety of related tasks. The purpose of this job is to act as the initial point-of-contact for zoning in the Community Development Department – assist the general public, review zoning for single-family building permits, respond to freedom of information requests, and prepare Planning and Zoning Commission reports and zoning verification letters. Code Inspector (Zoning), City of Joliet, IL
The Zoning Inspector is responsible for enforcement of a variety of municipal codes, ordinances and regulations which were created to promote the health, safety, and welfare of Joliet residents. Under general supervision performs a variety of technical duties in support of the City's municipal code enforcement programs including but not limited to zoning, signs, nuisance abatement, private parking citations, inoperable vehicles, code violations, and other routine and complex duties relative to assigned areas of responsibilities. Serves as a resource and provides information on City regulations to property owners, residents, businesses, the general public, and other City departments.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
In addition to performing property inspections for compliance with City Codes and Ordinances, the Zoning Inspector is generally first line of contact with the public. The Zoning Inspector will answer citizen complaints as required, prepare exterior property maintenance bid lists and oversee request for bids; and prepares reports as necessary.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform a variety of technical duties in support of the City's municipal code enforcement program; ensure compliance with City regulations and ordinances pertaining to zoning, parking, signs, nuisance abatement, and other related codes and regulations.
- Receive and respond to citizen complaints and reports from other agencies and departments on violations of City zoning, parking, and related municipal codes and ordinances; interview complainant; conduct site investigations and provide recommendations for resolution.
- Conduct field investigations; inspect properties for violations; attempt to make contact at the residence or business in order to resolve violation; issue and post warning notices; notices of violations; corrective notices, orders to comply, and related documentation for code violations; schedule and perform follow-up functions to gain compliance including letters, inspections, calls, meetings, discussions, and negotiations to ensure compliance with appropriate codes and ordinances.
- Maintain accurate documentation and case files on all investigations, inspections, enforcement actions, and other job-related activities including accurate and detailed information regarding code enforcement activity to substantiate violations and take photographs to verify and document violations.
- Issue citations for violations as needed to enforce ordinances and codes.
- Participates in administrative hearings and prepares documents related to violations that may require court action and attests for the City in legal proceedings.
- Assists other planning staff members and performs related duties and responsibilities as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma/GED supplemented by two years of experience enforcing municipal codes, property inspection or related experience.
- Current International Code Council certification as a zoning inspector;
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

The International Code Council offers certification as a zoning inspector.

Community Development Director, Village of Lincolnwood, IL
Lincolnwood (population 13,463) is a diverse, dynamic community in Cook County and the gateway to the North Shore. The Village offers a strong mix of residential neighborhoods, commercial districts, and light industrial areas. Major assets include the new District 1860 mixed-use development, a vibrant restaurant scene, the Lincolnwood Town Center mall, and seven automotive dealerships. Several major projects are underway, including a dual-branded Marriott hotel and the Town Center redevelopment. Lincolnwood is a full-service, professionally managed home-rule municipality with a $68 million budget and a continued focus on infrastructure and facility improvements.
The Community Development Director leads a department of eight full-time staff and contracted services with SAFEbuilt. The Director oversees planning, zoning, permitting, building code review, code enforcement, and building inspections, and provides staff support to the Plan Commission/Zoning Board of Appeals and the Economic Development Commission. The department’s operating budget is $1.5 million. The Director is a key member of the Village’s executive leadership team and reports to the Village Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the redevelopment of the 30+ acre Lincolnwood Town Center site from concept design through the construction phase.
- Guide the continued buildout of District 1860, including the Marriott hotel, a 40,000 square foot retail building, and first-floor commercial spaces.
- Manage the full lifecycle of the Village’s Comprehensive Plan update.
- Drive business attraction, retention, and expansion strategies to strengthen the local economy, reduce commercial vacancies, and support long-term economic sustainability. Collaborate with the Economic Development Commission on policy and program development.
- Guide zoning, land use, and redevelopment initiatives while supporting the Plan Commission/ZBA and Economic Development Commission to ensure balanced, forward-looking planning decisions.
- Promote Lincolnwood as a business-friendly, development-ready community through targeted economic development marketing and outreach.
- Serve as liaison to developers, businesses, and partner agencies, supporting businesses navigating Village processes, regulations, and incentives.
- Oversee zoning, building, and development code updates and enforcement, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Provide professional recommendations to elected officials and commissions, ensuring alignment with Village policies, procedures, and strategic initiatives.
- Represent the Village with the Chamber of Commerce and regional organizations, building strong relationships with community stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, architecture, public administration, or related field required; master’s degree preferred.
- AICP certification desired. CEcD certification a plus.
- Minimum seven years of progressively responsible planning and development experience.
- Strong knowledge of community and economic development programs, Illinois land-use regulations, and developer agreements.
Compensation and Benefits
This is a full-time, exempt position with a salary range of $144,357 to $202,100 annually with a starting salary determined based on qualifications and experience. Community Development Intern, Village of Montgomery, IL
The Village of Montgomery Community Development Department is seeking student applicants for the temporary position of Community Development Intern. This position is expected to begin work in late May and continue through August (approximately 10-13 weeks). The Community Development Intern will be responsible for supporting the department in code enforcement, administration of the adjudication process, customer service and other duties as assigned by the director.
Primary Duties:

- Patrol community for construction work being conducted without a permit.

The expected starting salary range is $82,558 - $101,393 (full range to $120,229) depending upon qualifications and experience. A comprehensive benefit package includes participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF), health insurance including medical, and dental, (also available to dependents), life insurance, medical and dependent care flexible spending accounts, optional 457 plan participation (MissionSquare and Nationwide), PSLF eligibility, and paid holidays, vacation, sick leave, and personal days, as well as tuition reimbursement.

Late Fee: Effective May 1, 2019: A non-refundable late fee will be assessed to each outstanding invoice after nine weeks. Late fees are $25 for full-time positions and $5 for paid internships. The late fee will be added to the original outstanding invoice and an updated invoice will be sent to the customer.
