Community Development Administrator

City of Chardon

Salary Range: $89,544 to $98,717

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The purpose of this position is to manage all aspects of economic development, planning, and zoning

code administration within the City of Chardon. This position coordinates all development and

construction projects from the preliminary planning stages all the way through completion. This

position is also responsible for administering community development activities and long-range

planning. This position is also responsible for meeting with existing and potential businesses in

the City with regards to retention and expansion and acts as the liaison with numerous civic

organizations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or

all- inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

• Serves as a key member of senior management and assists with the City’s strategic planning

efforts and addressing citywide policy and management issues.

• Reviews all development plans and construction plans, either directly or through other municipal

departments and consultants, for conformance with Municipal Zoning regulations and standards.

• Prepares reports and formulates recommendations regarding development plans and construction

plans for City Council and the Municipal Planning Commission.

• Administers the project submittal and approval process in accordance with the Municipal Planning

and Zoning Code.

• Coordinates staff reports and recommendations on land use planning and development matters and

presents conclusions to Council and Planning Commission.

• Responsible for inspection during construction of all projects proposed under the Planning and

Zoning Code to ensure conformance with approved plans.

• Administers the zoning and site development permit process and enforcement in accordance with

municipal regulations and standards.

• Attends meetings of the Planning Commission and City Council to provide information on

recommendations, appeal actions and/or other development actions.

• Communicates with the public property owners and developers to explain problems and procedures

on a variety of planning and zoning matters. Advises citizen on City zoning ordinance requirements

and other matters relating to planning and zoning.

• Provides effective and efficient customer services and promotes and maintains responsible

community relations.

• Directs the preparation and administration of the annual budget for the department and

manages

budget compliance throughout the year.

• Supervises / directs actions of the Zoning Inspector

• Performs other duties as assigned.
